The founding aquariums

Nausicaá is not only an aquarium but also an educational and cultural center dedicated to the oceans, a platform for initiatives aimed at protecting the sea, a meeting place for professionals, scientists, spokespersons for ocean-related issues, film producers, and the public, teachers and schools, as well as many other actors involved in marine issues.

Of the 600,000 visitors to Nausicaá each year, 68% are French and 38% are foreign (mainly British, Belgian, Dutch, and German); 13% of visitors live on the Opal Coast (near Boulogne-sur-Mer); one in two visitors has already been to Nausicaá in the past; 30% come in groups and 35% are children. Nausicaá is located in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France’s largest fishing port and Europe’s most important fish processing center.

The Acquario Di Genova is an educational, scientific, and cultural center that aims to develop and consolidate awareness of the sustainable relationship between humans and the sea. This aquarium welcomes more than 1,300,000 visitors each year from Italy (mainly from the north and center of the country) and most European countries, with a small percentage of visitors coming from other continents.

Genoa is located in Liguria, in northwestern Italy, facing the sea, near France. It is one of the most important commercial and tourist ports in the Mediterranean. The province of Genoa has a Marine Protected Area (Portofino) and several regional protected areas. Liguria also has a national marine protected area (Cinque Terre) and many other regional protected areas.

The Finisterrae Aquarium is a scientific center dedicated to raising public awareness of marine issues and environmental education. Its main objective is to promote ocean conservation by improving knowledge and inspiring emotion. It is managed by the Scientific Museums of A Coruña, which are part of the city council and of which it is an integral part.

Regional coordinators

In order to expand nationwide, Mr.Goodfish relies on regional coordinators. Their task is to strengthen the program’s local roots and involve the regional fishing industry in drawing up lists of recommended species.

The National Sea Center coordinates the establishment of lists of recommendations for the English Channel/North Sea coastline, from Dunkirk to Cherbourg.

Nausicaa is also home to the Mr.Goodfish team, which is responsible for drawing up seasonal lists for all coastal areas, promoting and communicating the program nationwide, monitoring members, and managing the Mr.Goodfish community. The team is made up of:

Justine DELETTRE, Mr.Goodfish Program
Manager Tom OBERT, Mr.Goodfish Project Manager (upstream)

Represented by Jérôme NICOL, organizes the establishment committees’ lists for the Brittany/Atlantic coast. Since October 2021, SASU CADK and the Mr.Goodfish program have been collaborating to:

  • objectively raise public awareness of resource conservation by respecting the size at first sexual maturity and the seasonality of products;
  • promote and develop exchanges between producers, processors, and consumers in the context of establishing and complying with sustainable and responsible fishing practices, incorporating environmental considerations.

While the partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation continues on new topics, Planet Ocean Montpellier has taken over since the beginning of 2025 to coordinate the development of seasonal lists of responsible seafood products for the Mediterranean.
With its expertise and commitment to preserving marine resources, Planet Ocean Montpellier works closely with the Mr.Goodfish team, as well as with scientific experts and local industry professionals, to identify the aquatic species to be prioritized each season. By incorporating Mr.Goodfish’s sustainability criteria, Planet Ocean Montpellier is actively contributing to promoting more responsible consumption and raising public awareness of the challenges of preserving marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean.
